Writers and artists are free to submit original content that fit in with the themes of InSight, such as narratives, perspectives, opinion, and commentary. Apart from written content, InSight also welcomes multimedia submissions such as photo essays, art series, artwork, videos and infographics relating to local poverty and inequality.
Once submitted, your content will be reviewed by the editorial team. Due to limited space, we are only able to accept a certain number of submissions. If you do not hear from us in 14 days after the deadline, please assume that we will not be able to use your article. At that time, please feel free to offer it elsewhere.
InSight Magazine has in the past held a call for applications and as our team expands, there will be future opportunities for those interested in joining our team. Please subscribe to our newsletter to receive updates on such opportunities.

Submission Details
InSight Magazine primarily publishes long-form non-fiction, literary journalism pieces. Articles that run around 1-5 pages in length are ideal. However, submissions of any length and any genre, fiction or nonfiction, will be considered.
- Files must be in Word format, Times New Roman, 12 pt. font with 2 inch margins. File name must include author’s full name and date of submission. Example: JohnSmith_02-08-17
- Subjects within any video, article or image published by InSight Magazine must consent to their participation. It is ideal that subjects sign the subject release form.

InSight Magazine is seeking content submissions from the following categories:
Longform Stories
Longform stories are highly sought out for InSight Magazine’s print issue and typically run over 1,000 words in length. Longform stories can include narratives, perspectives, investigative and immersion pieces. Writers will receive a $50 stipend for features published digitally and an additional of $50 (a total of $100) if the story is selected towards the print issue.
Feature Stories
Features typically highlight an individual, event or group and can include human interest stories, Q&A’s, informational features, or profiles. Writers will receive a $30 stipend for features published digitally and an additional of $30 (a total of $60) if the story is selected towards the print issue.
Op-ed Stories
Opinion pieces typically run from 500 words to 1,500 words and should should incorporate facts, research and statistics to support presented argument. Writers will only receive compensation for op-ed stories selected towards the print issue ($50).
Multi-media Stories
Apart from written content, InSight also welcomes multimedia submissions such as photo essays, art series, artwork, videos and infographics relating to local poverty and inequality.
- Image files must be in the format of PNG or JPEG and must include author’s full name and date of submission. Example: JohnSmith_02-08-17.
- If submitting photographs, please submit photos that are free of particulars such as watermarks or branding and nothing below 250 ppi of resolution.
- Subjects within any video, article or image published by InSight Magazine must consent to their participation. It is ideal that subjects sign the subject release form.
- Please note that InSight Magazine reserves the right to reject given imagery, edit submitted imagery, and/or use its own imagery for any given article.

Artists will receive a $40 stipend for photo essays, art series and videos published digitally and an additional $50 (a total of $90) if the piece is selected towards the print issue.
Topics of Interest
To be considered for publication at InSight, a story must either be intersectional with or directly relate to issues on local poverty and economic inequality (region is limited to California).

In preparation for the print issue of 2019, InSight Magazine is specifically seeking submissions that include, but are not limited to narratives, perspectives, longform and features relating to the intersectional issues of gender and poverty.

In submitting your pitch to InSight Magazine, please to specify its relevance to local poverty and inequality, why the story would be significant, and why InSight would be interested in having you pursue such a story. Please submit through the Rolling Submissions Page.
InSight Magazine’s radio show broadcasts on KUCI 88.9 FM Irvine every Friday at 5PM. Archived shows can also be found on iTunes, Spotify among other podcasting apps.

Writers will receive a $50 stipend for each digitally published story, and an additional $50 if that story is selected towards print publication. Compensation will be offered for digital stories of any length. Compensation for stories selected towards print publication must be at least 2 pages in length, single-spaced.
Photographers and artists will receive $40 for each photo essay or art series digitally published, and an additional $50 if the submission is selected towards print publication.
